Compare the2025 Toyota SupraVS 2024 BMW 2 Series

Both the Supra and 2 Series offer rear cross-traffic warning, but the Supra Auto has Parking Support Brake (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The 2 Series’ Cross Traffic Warning doesn’t automatically brake.

Both the Supra and the 2 Series have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras, driver alert monitors, available blind spot warning systems and rear parking sensors.

Toyota’s powertrain warranty covers the Supra 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than BMW covers the 2 Series. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 5 years or 60,000 miles. Coverage on the 2 Series ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

There are almost 4 times as many Toyota dealers as there are BMW dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Supra’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Toyota vehicles are better in initial quality than BMW vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Toyota above average in initial quality. With 14 more problems per 100 vehicles, BMW is rated below average.

The Supra’s 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder produces 127 more horsepower (382 vs. 255) and 73 lbs.-ft. more torque (368 vs. 295) than the 230i’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder.

As tested in Car and Driver the Toyota Supra is faster than the 230i 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder (automatics tested):

In a Car and Driver race course test, the Toyota Supra 3.0 was clocked 5 seconds faster than the BMW M240i Coupe xDrive (175.6 sec. vs. 180.6 sec.).

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Toyota Supra higher (4 to 6 out of 10) than the BMW 2 Series (3 to 5). This means the Supra produces up to 23.4 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the 2 Series every 15,000 miles.

The Supra offers a manual transmission for better acceleration, control and sportiness. The 2 Series doesn’t offer a manual transmission.

For better traction, the Supra has larger tires than the 2 Series (F:255/35R19 & R:275/35R19 vs. 225/45R18). The Supra’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the 2 Series (F:255/35R19 & R:275/35R19 vs. F:245/35R19 & R:255/35R19).

The Supra’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 35 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the 230i’s standard 45 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Supra has standard 19-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the 230i.

The Supra 3.0 Premium handles at 1.07 G’s, while the 230i Coupe pulls only .92 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

For better maneuverability, the Supra’s turning circle is 2.3 feet tighter than the 2 Series’ (34.1 feet vs. 36.4 feet). The Supra’s turning circle is 4 feet tighter than the 2 Series xDrive’s (34.1 feet vs. 38.1 feet).

The Toyota Supra may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 250 to 450 pounds less than the BMW 2 Series.

The Supra is 6.5 inches shorter than the 230i, making the Supra easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

As tested by Car and Driver while under full throttle, the interior of the Supra 3.0 Premium is quieter than the M240i Coupe xDrive (81 vs. 86 dB).

The Supra’s standard Smart Key System allows you to unlock the doors from either outside door handle and start the engine, all without removing the key from the pocket or purse. Comfort Go standard on the 2 Series only offers hands-free access for the ignition, none to unlock the car.

The Toyota Supra has a standard Homelink wireless remote control system for garage door operation and device management, conveniently located on the rear view mirror. Homelink® eliminates the need for separate garage door openers and associated risks of losing, breaking, or having dead batteries. BMW charges extra for Homelink® on the 2 Series.

The Supra will cost the buyer less in the long run because of its superior resale value. The IntelliChoice estimates that the Supra will retain 53.89% to 67.06% of its original price after five years, while the 2 Series only retains 51.35% to 52.16%.

Consumer Reports® recommends both the Toyota Supra and the BMW 2 Series, based on reliability, safety and performance.
