The GR Corolla has a standard Secondary Collision Brake, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The G70 doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the GR Corolla. But it costs extra on the G70.

Both the GR Corolla and the G70 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available rear parking sensors.

There are over 5 times as many Toyota dealers as there are Genesis dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the GR Corolla’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the statistics that show that Toyota vehicles are more reliable than Genesis vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Toyota second in reliability, above the industry average. With 53 more problems per 100 vehicles, Genesis is ranked 16th.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2024 Auto Issue reports that Toyota vehicles are more reliable than Genesis vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Toyota second in overall reliability. Genesis is ranked 18th.

On the EPA test cycle the GR Corolla gets better mileage than the G70:

The GR Corolla offers a manual transmission for better acceleration, control and sportiness. The G70 doesn’t offer a manual transmission.

For better stopping power the GR Corolla’s front brake rotors are larger than those on the G70:

For better traction, the GR Corolla has larger tires than the G70 (235/40R18 vs. 225/40R19).

The GR Corolla handles at 1.02 G’s, while the G70 pulls only .94 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The GR Corolla executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1.1 seconds quicker than the G70 Sport Advanced (24.9 seconds @ .74 average G’s vs. 26 seconds @ .68 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the GR Corolla’s turning circle is .2 feet tighter than the G70’s (36.1 feet vs. 36.3 feet). The GR Corolla’s turning circle is 1.6 feet tighter than the G70 AWD’s (36.1 feet vs. 37.7 feet).

The Toyota GR Corolla may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 450 to 750 pounds less than the Genesis G70.

The GR Corolla is 10.8 inches shorter than the G70, making the GR Corolla easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The GR Corolla’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The G70 does not have an oil pressure gauge.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the GR Corolla has a standard rear wiper. The G70 doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

Insurance will cost less for the GR Corolla owner. The Complete Car Cost Guide estimates that insurance for the GR Corolla will cost $1175 less than the G70 over a five-year period.

The GR Corolla will cost the buyer less in the long run because of its superior resale value. The IntelliChoice estimates that the GR Corolla will retain 57.74% to 59.52% of its original price after five years, while the G70 only retains 49.24% to 51.02%.

IntelliChoice estimates that five-year ownership costs (depreciation, financing, insurance, fuel, fees, repairs and maintenance) for the Toyota GR Corolla will be $3604 to $4156 less than for the Genesis G70.

The GR Corolla was chosen as a Car and Driver’s “Top Ten” for 2023. The G70 hasn’t been picked since 2019.
