The Sequoia has standard Active Headrests, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the Active Headrests system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The QX80 doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

The Sequoia has a standard Secondary Collision Brake, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The QX80 doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

When descending a steep, off-road slope, the Sequoia 4x4’s optional Downhill Assist Control allows you to creep down safely. The QX80 doesn’t offer Downhill Assist Control.

Both the Sequoia and QX80 have Rear Cross Traffic Alert, but the Sequoia has Parking Support Brake (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The QX80’s Rear Cross Traffic Alert doesn’t automatically brake.

Both the Sequoia and the QX80 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available four-wheel drive.

There are over 6 times as many Toyota dealers as there are Infiniti dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Sequoia’s warranty.

The battery on the Sequoia is in the trunk, which protects it from hot underhood temperatures that can degrade battery life. By keeping the Sequoia’s battery 20 to 30 degrees cooler, its life is increased by years. The QX80’s battery is in the hot engine compartment.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the statistics that show that Toyota vehicles are more reliable than Infiniti vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Toyota second in reliability, above the industry average. With 72 more problems per 100 vehicles, Infiniti is ranked 22nd.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2024 Auto Issue reports that Toyota vehicles are more reliable than Infiniti vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Toyota second in overall reliability. Infiniti is ranked 13th.

The Sequoia’s 3.4 turbo V6 hybrid produces 67 lbs.-ft. more torque (583 vs. 516) than the QX80’s 3.5 turbo V6.

On the EPA test cycle the Sequoia gets better mileage than the QX80:

Regenerative brakes improve the Sequoia’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The QX80 doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

The Sequoia has a standard locking fuel door with a power remote release convenient to the driver. The fuel filler door is not lockable on the QX80. A locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank.

A 10-speed automatic is standard on the Toyota Sequoia, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only a nine-speed automatic is available for the QX80.

For better traction, the Sequoia TRD Pro’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the QX80 (285/65R18 vs. 275/60R20).

The Sequoia has a standard full size spare tire so a flat doesn’t interrupt your trip. A full size spare isn’t available on the QX80; it requires you to depend on a temporary spare, which limits mileage and speed before replacement.

The Toyota Sequoia may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs up to about 350 pounds less than the Infiniti QX80.

The Sequoia is 3.1 inches shorter than the QX80, making the Sequoia easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The front grille of the Sequoia uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The QX80 doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The Sequoia has .1 inches more front headroom, 2.7 inches more front hip room, .8 inches more front shoulder room, .6 inches more rear headroom, .9 inches more rear hip room and .8 inches more third row legroom than the QX80.

The Sequoia’s rear cargo window opens separately from the rest of the liftgate door to allow quicker loading of small packages. The QX80’s rear cargo window doesn’t open.

The Sequoia’s minimum standard towing capacity is much higher than the QX80’s (9120 vs. 8500 pounds).

The Sequoia has a higher standard payload capacity than the QX80 (1555 vs. 1455 lbs.).

The Sequoia has a much higher maximum payload capacity than the QX80 (1730 vs. 1455 lbs.).

The Sequoia’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The QX80 does not have an oil pressure gauge.

The Toyota Sequoia outsold the Infiniti QX80 by 75% during 2023.
